For the first thirty years of my life I lived near an ocean. During this time I developed a love for the water and spend most of my days surfing and SCUBA diving. As I grew older I also pursued my childhood goal of learning martial arts. So at twenty-seven, I started studying American Kenpo. It took seven years, but with hard work and dedication I earned my black belt. I continued studying and teaching Kenpo for five more years when I earned a second degree black belt, under a great American Kenpo instructor, Mr. Dennis Harris. At that time I started taking guitar lessons, focusing on finger-style and acoustic blues
In June of 2005 my wife and I lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she earned her phd. I also found a great guitar teacher, Steve Hanson. But upon my wife’s graduation, in January of 2009 we moved to Charleston, South Carolina; where my wife accepted a job at MUSC. I continue doing freelance work, but I have also been focusing on writing with the goal of getting more publications on line and in press. I practice Kenpo at a dojo in Goose Creek, with Nick Dreiling; owner of Coastal Keno Karate. I ‘ve been playing and studying guitar for the past five years, but for now I’ve just been practicing until I can find the right teacher. My goal is to learn “finger style” and “flat-picking” so one day I will be good enough to sit-in with a few musicians and play some good music.
Other then learning guitar, for the past ten years most of my time is spent at my computer (an intel mac pro). I have a nice view from my studio and I find graphic design and website design a fun and creative outlet. As far as a J-O-B goes, it is a great way to spend the day if you want to make an honest living. Currently, my wife and I go to the gym three or four days a week. I enjoy lifting weights and spinning. I don’t lift heavy weights, but I do enjoy spinning a couple time a week.
My wife and I have been happily married for over 10 years. She makes being married wonderful and she has put up with all my hobbies and interests with excitement and encouragement –she is the love of my life. We have three dogs: Molly, Sarah and Katie, they love going on walks and telling us what to do …and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
