Learn How To Find and Use Your Customer’s Sub-Layers?

Learn how to find new customers while creating topics for blogging and material for marketing and advertising

The question of, “who is a good customer and where can they be found” is an answer that needs to be considered by any business owner looking to stay ahead of the competition and in front of both new and existing customers.

At one time or another most businesses have answered, “who is a good customer and where can they be found”. However, most do NOT continue to give the time required to truly MAXIMIZE what can be learned about the customer.

Pushing to learn more about the customer will lead to what I call a customer’s sub-layer. Fortunately, these sub-layers are not difficult to find, especially when applying this exercise-

“twice a week (Monday and Thursday) start the day writing a short unanswered sentence. The purpose of the sentence is to “lead” you to find a new customer. For example, the sentence might start: “A good customer is __________ …”; or a sentence might start with, “Today I’m looking for _____…”; or, “The perfect customer is ________ …”. Put that piece of paper where it can be seen during the day. With the paper strategically placed, try to answer the question using what is “seen and head” though out the day.

At the end of the day grab the piece of paper and fill in the answer. For example, an idea for a good customer might come from: a current event, an article, a conversation with a friend, or a customer might inadvertently provide the answer to the day’s question …the possibilities are endless.

Personally, the other day I was given a business card. It had a pixelated logo with washed out colors and hard to read type. The question I started with during the day was, “A good customer is________”. At the end of the day I finished my sentence with, “A good customer is someone that needs their logo recreated or digitized.” The outcome of this is two fold. The exercise might lead to a headline for a Google Adwords or print campaign, “Clean Up Your Logo” –For As Low As $80.00 –. Or, the exercise might lead to good material for articles or blogging.

Finally, by doing this simple little 10 minute exercise twice a week a HABIT will develop. That’s right! It is a good habit that will can lead to all sorts of positive growth; does that make this a new age technique? Humm –perhaps this exercise can be done while practicing yoga? Anyway, whatever the case, yoga or not, just image how this exercise can help generate: new customers, it can influence topics for blogging, article writing, advertising and marketing. Oh ya -the best thing is it does not cost any money, so there is nothing to loose.

Try it for a month, see if your customer’s sub-layers lead to unexpected results.

That is a good usable advice. I’ve always believed that we should always start working with what we have and then reach out for more. I think by adding this technique of yours when analyzing the blog/site’s visitors and their browsing habits, you can pin point your goals and build from there.
Which remind me, we in Visions Projection started using a new software called Web CEO :

Along with other analytics softwares and services, it actually been good for us for far. I was meaning to post about it on out blog. Anyway mate I thought you might wanna check it out and maybe do you own version on whether you would recommend it.

Good brainstorming technique, Gary. I’m always looking for more of those, especially when it comes to searching for new customers. Sometimes I tend to search down too narrow of a path. Thanks.
